Porterhouse steak is probably one of the finest beef out there. If you have the chance of cooking one, you should take care not to mess it up.

Out there have many ways to cook a steak no doubt, but the porterhouse one just needs a grill and nothing else.

Many people who know a thing or two about the porterhouse steak insist that the meat needs just a bit of salt to bring out its flavor. But experimenting with different seasoning could actually work very well. For example, rubbing a clove of garlic on the meat will do wonders. Also, don’t forget a bit of salt and pepper.

Should You Tenderize Porterhouse Steak with Salt?

Salt is a very good tenderizer. Salting the porterhouse at least 50 minutes before grilling should help with this. You can even salt it overnight if you want to get the best results. The salt simply draws out the moisture from the meat and then reabsorbs it. This will season the meat from within and tenderize it very effectively.

Marinating your porterhouse steak will also work well in bringing out its best flavors but you need to very careful on how long you marinade. In case you are using a marinade that contains something acidic like vinegar, you should never leave the steak in it overnight. Four hours should be enough to marinade and bring out the steak’s flavors to the fold.

Once all the ingredients needed are collected, it’s time to get the steak ready for grilling. You don’t really need to do a lot. The first thing is to remove the steak from the freezer and leave it to get to room temperature. Although it’s possible to cook a frozen steak right from the freezer, the porterhouse requires a different approach and leaving to reach room temperature is highly advised. Once this is done, continue with the seasoning and the grilling as normal.

Well, we’re going to find a nice hot spot on the grill if you’re looking to get that crosshatch pattern marks that you see in restaurants.

  1. Throw the steak at a 45-degree angle in the grill, method direct heat there that’s how we’re going to start.
  2. After you cook two minutes a half we’re just going to turn that steak just the opposite way then cook it for two min a half. Do this the same for another side(don’t over flip the steak) and let this cook for a little longer.
  3. Pull the steak off the grill at about 110°F let it rest temperature should come up to about 120°F by itself as quick medium-rare

How Long to Let Porterhouse Steak Rest?

When you pull out the steak from the grill you should rest it for about 5 minutes. It’s still
cooking retain the juices on the inside. If you cut into that steak right now all of your juices and fats bleed out of it you got a lot of nice juice around the plate I’d rather have it in the meat.

The things I recommend always is to cut into the center of your steak first too because then you’re going to get a good idea how it’s really cooked look at all that juice in there that is just going to be so tasty.

Well, you have to use a watch here. Cook the meat on one side for five minutes and then flip. Cook the second side for an additional 3 minutes for rare, 4 minutes for medium-rare and 5 minutes for medium.

How Do You Tenderize a Porterhouse Steak?

Just squish it. Start by putting the meat in between wax paper or even a plastic wrap. Go ahead and use a tenderizing mallet to soften the steak. If you don’t have a mallet, you can use any blunt object or the bottom of a pan. The porterhouse usually has a bone in the middle. You need to maneuver around it carefully as you tenderize.

Begin to heating a large cast iron skillet over medium to high heat. Heat some oil in the pan until it starts smoking. Season the steak very well with salt and pepper and cook it in the skillet until it turns brown. Ensure the crust has also formed on the underside. This should take about 4 minutes. Flip it and cook the other side. Carefully put the steak on the cutting board and let it rest.

How Do You Grill a 2 Inch Thick Steak?

Just place the steak on the grill and cook until it turns golden brown and slightly charred. This takes about 4 to 5 minutes. Flip the steak and continue to grill for another 5 minutes.
